It's a dirty job, but someone's gotta do it!
It's a Thursday afternoon and the Port Washington crew has been out and about since early in the AM getting a jump start to the season. The 12 instructor squad has been at the club each day since Monday the 22nd. The start of the season may begin for the kids next Monday the 29th, but for the instructors the season has officially come to order.
Port Washington Yacht club will be host to up to 150 sailors this summer. The program has been home to hundreds of JSA sailors throughout the years. The junior program is headed by Mike Benchimol, a head instructor who is no stranger to being in charge.
"This summer plans on being one of our biggest yet and we have been preparing with the manual stuff all week."
The 12 instructors have the pleasure of each getting their own motor boat and small class sizes under their supervision. Any problems they may come across with engines are fixed by their head dock man, coming to their rescue. With all the great perks, the instructors can't really complain about the rough stuff they endured this week, which really only consisted of moving and fixing the boats for the season's start.
Good Luck Port Wash, and we will see your sailors out there soon!
