Anna Tunnicliffe, who won a gold medal in the Women's Laser Radial class as a member of the 2008 US Olympic team, has been visiting LIS recenty.
August 18, she and her Olympic teammate Zach Railey and Olympic coach Dave Perry visited the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp in upstate Connecticut, and then went sailing with local junior sailors at the Noroton YC as they tried different boats supplied by Laser Performance.
Anna writes in her blog, "There was a wide range of sailors and experiences. The youngest two twins were 7 years old and had only been sailing twice before; others were very accomplished racers. The kids had an opportunity to sail either a Bug, a Zuma, a Bahia, an SB3, or a Sonar. I sailed the Sonar with the help of some of the sailors and had a fun morning slowly sailing around the Long Island Sound in very hot temperatures. The afternoon was match race practice. The practice was for the kids to see, but for me, Dave and Zach to practice a little. It was great to do some proper practice ahead of my upcoming events, as it blew away some of the cobwebs."
This week, Anna is competing on Manhasset Bay for the Knickerbocker Cup. The Knickerbocker is a ISAF Grade 2 open match racing event and a qualifier for the Match Race World Tour. There are twelve teams total from seven countries; two of the teams are all-women. Details are at the event website (click on Knickerbocker Cup).
