For those of you who love the movie, but can't believe it really happened, feast your eyes below and check out what really happened in the BPYC Overnight Race, just last night!
The Beach Point Overnight Race started out as any other usual Overnight Race. The winds were favorable and the kids were ready to go. Ten teams arrived from various clubs to join in the competitors meeting before going out. The boats were all required to have working engines, radios, and an adult on board, along with other necessary safety precautions. No one really imagines you would ever need these items, but they are packed along just in case.
At around 10 PM last night I noticed some strong winds brewing outside my window. Safely inside my house, I didn't even think twice about the many kids aboard the various boats making their way around the Sound. Weather charts show the winds gusted up to 65 knots and maybe even greater. Just about half the boats had to abandon race and head in. No official comments have been made by the people on board these boats, but here on the blog, my email/phone is standing by! Any info on the race, please let us know!
No one was reported to be injured, which is first and foremost a good thing!

If you were on the BP Overnight and have a story to tell, take a look at the stories about Fastnet 1979 and write your own version about the 2009 BP Overnight.
