The Waterfront Center, located in Oyster Bay, New York is extending its facilities to create a high school sailing program for high schools in the area. This opportunity for high schools to take advantage of great facilities and great coaching should not be wasted! Read on for more info...
Background:
The high school does not have to provide anything for sailing to be an official high school sport. The school only has to be aware that the team is using the school name when they join ISSA in order to participate in higher level events. When lobbying for approval from the Athletic Director make sure they understand that The WaterFront Center, parents and participants are handling all aspects of the sailing team, leaving the school with no responsibilities. However, if the school does not grant permission, students can still participate in non-ISSA events, including all local regattas. Sailors also have the ability to get private coaching during the year if they want one-on-one training for a specific non-ISSA event.
