League City, Texas was the site in which history was made for Gary Jobson. A noted author of over 15 sailing books, and television broadcaster for the 2008 Olympic Games, Jobson has seen his fair share of the sailing world. US Sailing's annual general meeting was held in Texas on October 24th. That night the new board of directors elected Gary Jobson to the position of President.
Jobson's views for US Sailing were mapped out in his acceptance speech in which issues of membership and promotion about the organization were discussed. Jobson would like to make membership not, and I repeat not mandatory. He feels the membership should be for people if they would like to be members, not necessarily a requirement for sailing in the events. Jobson also regarded the aspect of promoting the sport by starting with the youth programs. This means more help for getting youth programs off the ground and also for promoting the popularity of the sport.
