On Saturday, July 7th, almost 76 young sailors from 10 different clubs convened at Pequot Yacht Club to participate in the annual Opti Rumble. It was a hot summer day on land but there was wind off shore so the red, blue, and white fleets were able to finish three races each. In the afternoon, however, impending thunderstorms forced the Race Committee to bring the boats in early.
Cooper Yeager from Stamford Yacht Club came in 1st in Red fleet, and was followed by Julia Reynolds from Pequot , while Hobi Lew, also from Pequot, took home 3rd place. In the Blue fleet, Nina Reichhelm from Pequot came in 1st, followed by Anna-Luisa Brakman from Noroton Yacht Club and Everett Nash from Pequot. Lastly, in the White fleet, Gavin Meese from Noroton came in 1st, Charlotte Costikyan, also from Noroton, came in 2nd, and Neilsen Gordon from Cedar Point Yacht Club finished 3rd.
After racing, the sailors enjoyed post race hot dogs, cookies and watermelon. Although the day ended early, it was a great regatta and everyone had a great time. Special thanks to Dan Nash and his Race Committee, all of the fabulous instructors, the amazing staff at Pequot, Alison Lew, the Pequot Junior Sailing Program Chair and all the incredible volunteers who gave their time to help run a fun Opti regatta.
